Why Asia Is iGaming's New Tier 1 in 2026? | EVADAV Ad Network Guide

Ten years ago, Europe was the unquestioned center of iGaming. The UK, Germany, the Nordics, and the Netherlands combined licensed operators, mature player bases, and relatively predictable payment flows.

But that has changed – Asia is now central to the global iGaming conversation, combining large-scale traffic volumes, fast-growing mobile audiences, and highly engaged betting communities. The shift isn’t sudden – it’s being driven by structural factors: demographic scale, widespread smartphone adoption, improving payment infrastructure, and betting habits that long predate digital platforms.

In this article, EVADAV Ad Network explains why so many advertisers now treat Asia as the new Tier-1 in iGaming, which markets deserve attention first, and how to plan an ad campaign for the region in 2026.

Whether you run campaigns through our advertisers' ad network or monetize traffic via our publisher ad network, the shift toward Asia is one worth understanding early.

How Europe Is Losing Ground in iGaming

Europe hasn’t become a less attractive iGaming market by chance. From a media buyer’s perspective, tighter regulation has gradually changed the economics of acquisition, retention, and scale.

Let’s take a closer look at the UK. Since April 2025, players aged 25 and over can stake a maximum of £5 per spin on online slots, and players aged 18 to 24 are capped at £2. Financial vulnerability checks trigger at £150 in net deposits over a rolling 30-day period. Autoplay is banned, turbo modes are banned, and operators pay a statutory levy on top of a Remote Gaming Duty that climbed to 40% in 2026. Each of these measures makes sense for player protection. Also, each of them shrinks deposits, lifts acquisition costs, and squeezes the payouts advertisers can afford.

And Germany went through the same cycle earlier: a €1,000 monthly cross-operator deposit limit, a 5.3% tax on stakes rather than revenue, and advertising windows so narrow that many operators stopped scaling there.

The Netherlands followed with mandatory lower deposit limits in October 2024. Within six months, traffic to unlicensed sites had reportedly increased almost ten-fold, illustrating a recurring regulatory challenge: measures intended to protect players can also redirect demand towards platforms outside the regulated market.

Europe remains a major source of iGaming revenue, holding about 41% of the global online gambling market in 2025. However, the region offers less room for scalable growth than it once did. KYC requirements can create difficulties at key conversion points, stake caps may limit player lifetime value, and higher tax burdens reduce the margins available for paid acquisition. For media buyers focused on expansion, established European markets increasingly require more investment to achieve the same scale.

Why Asia Became the New Center of iGaming

While Europe was tightening, Asia was compounding. The numbers set the frame – the global online gambling market was valued at $88 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach $202.8 billion by 2033. Asia Pacific is the fastest-growing region in that forecast. Regional revenue stood at roughly $19 billion in 2024 and is expected to more than double by 2030 at a 12.8% annual pace, with India posting the steepest curve of any country.

Three drivers sit underneath those figures – and none of them depends on regulators:

Demography. Asia is young – the median Filipino is 26 years old. Young audiences adopt new products faster, spend more time on mobile, and treat betting as entertainment rather than a habit they picked up in a betting shop.

Mobile-first infrastructure. European iGaming grew up on desktop, and later adapted to phones. Asian iGaming skipped that stage entirely – the Philippines alone counts 98 million internet users and 137 million mobile connections, equal to 117% of the population. Players deposit through e-wallets, bet from browsers, and never touch a laptop.

For a media buyer, this changes everything about creatives, landing pages, and format choice, which is why mobile formats like Popunder and In-Page dominate the region's top ad network trends.

Betting culture. Cricket in India draws hundreds of millions of viewers per tournament, and wagering on it is a mass social behavior rather than a niche hobby. Basketball and sabong betting in the Philippines attract over ten million weekly participants. Esports wagering across SEA and South Korea grows with every tournament season. Advertisers don’t need to create demand in Asia. The demand was there before the offers were.

Key Markets and What Makes Each One Different

Asia isn’t one market – each GEO comes with its own regulatory framework, player behavior, payment preferences, and acquisition dynamics. Here’s where advertisers should study:

The Philippines

The Philippines is often one of the first markets advertisers assess when developing an Asia-focused iGaming strategy. It offers an established regulatory framework under PAGCOR, a large English-speaking digital audience, and a mature local ecosystem.

Also, PAGCOR reduced its standard eGames fee to 30% of gross gaming revenue from 1 January 2025, while online operations run by integrated resorts receive a 25% rate. These changes were intended to make the regulated segment more competitive and attract investment.

India

This GEO has the largest audience in the region and the most turbulent rulebook. Cricket betting demand is enormous and organic, yet recent federal restrictions on real-money gaming have made the market legally complicated for operators. Buyers who work India successfully treat compliance as a daily discipline, not a checkbox.

Japan

Japan is a high-value market worth watching, but its legal framework remains restrictive for most online gambling products. Rather than framing the market as an imminent opportunity, position it as a long-term regulatory prospect: any future expansion would depend on specific legislation, licensing rules, and permitted product categories.

South Korea and wider SEA

Korea brings esports audiences with high engagement – Vietnam, Thailand, and Indonesia bring volume, low entry prices, and rising smartphone penetration. Indonesia in particular deserves its own playbook, which we include in the guide to iGaming in Indonesia. Several of these countries also appear in our ranking of the top 10 countries for iGaming traffic in 2026.

The old Tier 1-2-3 classification still shows payment capacity, but it no longer describes opportunity. By growth rate, audience engagement, and cost per result, several Asian GEOs now behave like premium markets while still being priced like developing ones.

What This Means for a Media Buyer in 2026

For media buyers, the shift toward Asia isn’t a call to move the budget from one region to another overnight. It’s an opportunity to build a more flexible acquisition mix: using regulated markets for stability, high-volume GEOs for testing, and mobile-first execution across every stage of the funnel.

Here are some tips on how to integrate that approach into campaign decisions in 2026:

  • Volume lives in SEA and India – quality lives in regulated areas. Use the Philippines and Japan-adjacent markets for higher-value players and cleaner compliance, and use Vietnam, Indonesia, and Thailand for scale and cheap testing.

  • Budget split should follow the growth curve, not habit. If most of your iGaming budget is still concentrated in Europe, you may be paying mature-market acquisition costs with less room left to scale. Expanding into selected Asian GEOs can give buyers a more cost-efficient environment for testing audiences, creatives, and funnel mechanics — before competition pushes prices higher.

  • Mobile is not a single segment here – it’s the market. Build every funnel for Android first, keep landings under two seconds, localize payment logos (GCash, PayMaya, e-wallets), and lean on formats that live in the mobile browser.

Asia rewards the same seasonal, GEO-by-GEO thinking we described in our health vertical seasonality study, and iGaming responds to local calendars even more sharply: cricket seasons, festival periods, tournament schedules.

  • Test before the crowd arrives. European operators priced out at home are already redirecting budgets east. Every quarter of delay makes Asian clicks more expensive.
